Pipe Boot and Vent Flashing Repair on Shingle Roofs in Bala Cynwyd, PA

Pipe Boot and Vent Flashing Repair on Shingle Roofs in Bala Cynwyd, PA

Every plumbing vent that comes through a shingle roof is sealed by a pipe boot: a metal or plastic flange that sits under the shingles above it and over the shingles below, with a rubber collar that hugs the pipe. The flange can last decades. The rubber collar often cracks from sun exposure within 10 to 15 years.

When the collar splits, water runs down the outside of the pipe and into the attic. It is one of the most common leak sources on asphalt shingle roofing.

Bala Cynwyd, PA Shingle Roof Repair helps homeowners in Bala Cynwyd, PA find shingle roof repair crews who replace pipe boots and box vent flashing correctly:

• Lifting the shingles above the boot without tearing them
• Removing the old boot and its nails
• Installing a new boot with the top of the flange tucked under the upper course
• Nailing the bottom corners and sealing the nail heads
• Resealing the shingles

A rubber collar slip-on repair kit is a quick option when the flange is still sound. A crew can tell you which way to go.
