3-Tab to Architectural Shingle Upgrade in Bala Cynwyd, PA

3-Tab to Architectural Shingle Upgrade in Bala Cynwyd, PA

Many manufacturers have cut back or dropped their three-tab lines, which makes patching an older three-tab roof harder every year. Upgrading to architectural shingles solves the matching problem and usually moves you to a heavier shingle with a better wind rating.

Bala Cynwyd, PA Shingle Roof Repair connects homeowners in Bala Cynwyd, PA with shingle roofing contractors who handle the switch. An upgrade on a slope or a full roof is a tear-off job. Laminated shingles are thicker and do not lie flat over the cutouts of old three-tab, so overlaying tends to leave a wavy surface.

A typical upgrade includes:

• Tearing off the old three-tab down to the deck
• Replacing any delaminated or soft plywood or OSB sheets
• New underlayment, with ice and water shield at eaves and valleys where code calls for it
• New drip edge and starter strip
• Architectural shingles and matching hip and ridge caps

It is also a good moment to look at attic ventilation. A hot attic bakes shingles from below, and fixing intake and exhaust can add years to the new asphalt shingle roofing.
